Q1. I am new to the Newport to Ensenada race. How can I get more information on actually racing the race?
A1. Attend one of the seminars, listed on the Home Page of the website (www.nosa.org.) Every aspect of the race will be covered, most of which will be illustrated with slides. And it is a good opportunity to ask any questions that are have not been covered.
Q2. Some of my crew are coming back on the boat. Do they need passports also?
A2. Yes, they will need either the standard Passport booklet or the new Passport Card, as described on the Home Page of the website, for return entry into the U.S., whether by land or by sea. The Passport Card is less expensive, and may well serve the purpose for those not likely to travel further abroad, such as Europe or Asia.
Q3. There is a lot of information about the race and related activities. How can I keep current with additions and changes?
A3. Besides the new and more comprehensive website, the social media, the use of which by your crew may drive you crazy at times, comes in handy. Updates will be published on Facebook and Twitter, as well as emails, on a periodic basis. So go to the website and click on the link to all of these, to check them out. Also, encourage your crew to do the same. It will help them keep informed about the race, and should make them all the more enthusiastic to participate.
Q4. I am a skipper-owner. This year I’m expecting to experience “The Thrill of Victory.” But I may have to return home right after the race. Can someone else pick up the perpetual trophy?
A4. Yes – but you need to designate a responsible person, such as an officer from your yacht club, as that person must show identification and sign the custody transfer contract. This obligates the signer to return the trophy to NOSA before the next year’s race, or take financial responsibility.
More to come, please check back!
